The things rescues ask us most — about RescueDB, your data, cost, and how we work. Can't see yours? Just ask.
At its heart, RescueDB is a database management system built for animal rescues — a single, reliable place for every animal's record. But it's much more than a list: it also handles medications, daily care rounds, weights, health notes, photos and adoptions, turning those records into the tools you use to run the rescue day to day.
Anyone on the team, from a new volunteer to a manager, can pick it up and use it on a phone, tablet or computer.
Just a small computer (a Raspberry Pi) that sits in your office and serves the app over your own wifi. We set it up for you. Staff and volunteers then use it from whatever devices you already have — there's a dedicated RescueDB app for Android (with an iPhone version planned), or you can simply open it in a web browser on a computer.
Everyone. There are roles — staff, manager and admin — so people see the right things and sensitive settings and information stay protected and hidden where appropriate, but the everyday jobs (care rounds, meds, health notes) are open to the whole team.
Yes. It runs on your own network, so it doesn't depend on an internet connection at all. And if a device drops off the wifi out in the kennels, it keeps working and syncs back up once it's reconnected — nothing gets lost.
By default RescueDB stays on your local network, which keeps everything nicely contained. If you need to reach it from elsewhere — say you're at a vet clinic with one of your animals and want their records to hand — secure remote access can be set up so the right people can log in from outside, without exposing your system to the wider internet.
On your own hardware, in your building. By default your records never leave the premises and aren't stored in anyone's cloud — we don't keep a copy on our systems unless you specifically ask us to hold an off-site backup for you. Either way, there's no third party with access to your data.
Yes — the system makes automatic daily backups, and you can take a manual backup or a full data export whenever you like. If you'd like an off-site copy kept safely away from the building, that can be set up too — including securely with us, if you ask.
Always. It's your data, and you can export the lot at any time. We're not in the business of holding anyone hostage.
There's a one-off setup fee and a monthly plan — no per-user charges and no cloud fees on top. We keep it deliberately simple and affordable for rescues. The full breakdown is on the RescueDB page.
Your system keeps working. If a plan ends, RescueDB carries on running as a licence-free version with all your data intact — you just stop receiving updates, new features and support. Nothing is taken away, and your records are always yours to export.
A real person — me — who knows the system inside out. No call centre, no ticket queue. While you're on a plan you get help when you need it, plus updates and new features as they're built. The app can even update itself with a single tap when there's a new version.
Plans run on a 12-month minimum term. That covers the setup and onboarding work properly and lets us support you well through your first year. After that it carries on month to month.
RescueDB is our flagship, but bespoke software is what we do — tools built around how an organisation actually works, rather than forcing you to bend around the software. If you've a problem that needs solving, we're happy to talk it through.
We do — practical items, replacement parts and creative one-offs, all made to order. For rescues and vets we make a purpose-built holder for the Halo microchip reader, and our Universal Name Plate prints straight from a RescueDB animal record.
Yes — like most modern developers, we use AI tooling to work faster and catch more. It's a tool, the same way a designer uses a drawing program. Every decision, every line of code and every fix is reviewed, tested and stood behind by a real person, and the design, the build and the support are all ours. None of your data is ever fed to an AI service — RescueDB runs entirely on your own hardware.
Ask anything — there's no sales script and no pressure, just a real answer.
